I am the primary caregiver for my husband, who has been diagnosed with severe dementia. Dr. Kreiss understands that dementia affects the entire family, not just the person diagnosed. The well-being of the family caregiver is essential in establishing any long-term care plan.

Dr. Kreiss’s unique approach combines his expertise as both a medical doctor and a cultural anthropologist. He recognizes how social structure, belief systems, and our interactions with the environment all play a role in caregiving. This holistic perspective allows him to personalize strategies, guiding those he works with through important paradigm shifts—from denial to acceptance, stigma to compassion, and decline to dignity. He encourages honest and deep discussions about the challenges of caregiving.  This openness helps to de-stigmatize dementia, bringing forth more compassion, as well as healing and understanding.

His dedication, kindness, and genuine concern for our family—especially for me as a caregiver—were invaluable. Thanks to his support, I was able to move from a place of despair and fear to one of hope and light.

Dr. Kreiss was a guardian angel to our family, ensuring we were able to provide our parents the most optimal care. All of us were supported by him not only medically, logistically and administratively, but most importantly we were fully supported emotionally. Dr. Kreiss has a unique blend of intellect, education, experience, emotional intelligence and compassion. It speaks volumes that he is choosing to devote himself to families with loved ones with dementia.

Missy and I have been caring for our mother, father, and stepfather at the same time, often in different locations, and the responsibility can feel overwhelming. Working with Joshua gave us a space to step back, think clearly, and feel supported so we could continue showing up for our parents and for each other. He understands both the emotional weight of caregiving and the practical realities we face today.

What stood out most was how he helped us recognize what we were already doing well. We came to appreciate the strength of our partnership as sisters, the purpose we feel in caring for our parents, and the importance of having a plan when things become uncertain or complicated. Our conversations helped us move from feeling stretched thin and anxious about “what’s next” to feeling more grounded and prepared.

Joshua brings a rare combination of compassion, structure, and real-world understanding. We left our sessions feeling more confident, more aligned as a team, and better equipped to support our parents without losing ourselves in the process. We would strongly recommend his coaching to any family navigating the challenges of caregiving.
